"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness."
– Jesus, Matthew 6
The original word that Jesus uses for "healthy" denotes generosity and the word he uses for "unhealthy" implies stinginess. That definitely adds a twist to this odd, yet over-familiar passage: "If your eyes are generous, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are stingy, your whole body will be full of darkness."
What I've taken this to mean lately is, where I don't see Light it is because I am being stingy with it. I am ruling out the Presence and trustworthiness of God in that area and all I see is darkness. And the darkness that I see is actually a projection of a darkness within me. But when I am generous with the Light of Trust and Love, my eyes are healthy and see things more accurately. And the Light that I see is also a projection of the Light within me. Within you.
